Bartolo Colon is with the Twins and the Mets aren’t happy at all

Listen, we know it’s tough to catch up on everything happening in the baseball world each morning. There are all kinds of stories, rumors, game coverage, and Vines of dudes getting hit in the beans every day. Trying to find all of it while on your way to work or sitting at your desk just isn’t easy. It’s OK, though. We’re going to do the heavy lifting for you each morning and find the things you need to see from within the SB Nation baseball network, as well as from elsewhere.

Kansas City needs starting pitching, and Toronto might just have a solution for them in Marco Estrada. Estrada hasn’t had a lights-out 2017, and thus the Royals probably won’t need to send back a pile of gold, or prospects worth as much, to get some help on the mound.

The Tigers aren’t stopping their selling with the J.D. Martinez trade. It looks like Justin Wilson is also on the trade block and has up to a dozen teams interested in his services. With that many teams asking about him, this might be one of the most sure-thing trades to expect over the next few weeks. Unless it doesn’t happen, of course.

Mets outfielders will be rotating for playing time until either Jay Bruce or Curtis Granderson are traded. To accommodate everyone involved, New York is hoping a trade happens as soon as possible and believes that Martinez finally being moved will help its case as far as interest goes.

Pablo Sandoval’s time with Boston officially ended on Wednesday, and Cheap Custom Baseball Jerseys his future is slightly uncertain Wholesale Jerseys as things stand in the league. However, San Francisco could be interested in welcoming him home for another stint by the Bay. Yes, really.

Rob Manfred won’t expand MLB while it needs new cities as stadium leverage

Rob Manfred would love to expand Major League Baseball. He brings it up all the time, and he even has three cities in mind that he once again mentioned while taking questions before Monday’s Home Run Derby: an MLB return to Montreal, an MLB club in Mexico City (or somewhere else in Mexico), and the rare mention of a United States city without a team, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Expansion would be exciting, it would make baseball money, it would create more jobs both on and off the field, and that’s before even getting into how many more minor league players would exist because of the addition of another couple of clubs. However, MLB is not going to expand just yet, not until it gets a few things off its plate, as Manfred himself explained:

Gray will be expensive. The A’s are counting on it. And they’re feeling lucky that they’re back to where they started.

What the Astros would gain by trading for Sonny Gray
The Astros are something of a superbeast, and it’s hard to explain just how terrifying they are. They have a super-young core that rivals any in baseball. They’re conservative with their money, at least for now (18th in overall payroll), but they play in one of the biggest markets in baseball. They have a divine farm system, even after making all sorts of trades to their roster.

Adding a low-cost, under-contract pitcher would allow them to use even more of those assets. Gray would allow them to spend more on the free-agent market. He would allow them to deal some of their pitching prospects. And, most importantly, he would make them better in 2017, even though they’re pretty freaking good already.

In the postseason, with a lineup that will melt Cheap Blank Hockey Jerseys your face Cheap Basketball Jerseys off, the Astros would be able to send out …

MLB trade rumor grade: Lance Lynn to the Royals?

Hello, and welcome to a new series in which we grade trade rumors from around Major League Baseball. The goal isn’t to start ranking the rumormongers by their hits and misses, but to figure out if a rumor makes sense for both teams involved. The more likely a rumor is to make you turn your head like a confused labrador retriever, the more likely it is to deserve a letter grade.

First up, we have a curious one from Bob Nightengale, who comes out of nowhere from the top rope with this one:

There were no rounds, either, no tournament format. Each batter got two chances to hit as many home runs before making five “outs.” That means there were 45 swings in the entire Derby, with five of them leaving the ballpark. Giancarlo Stanton hit 61 home runs in last year’s Derby.

So while there’s a little something missing from this year’s field, it’s still going to be a much, much better Derby than the ones from the past that were besotted with Hall of Famers and members of the 500-homer club. And if this is the trend, I’m all for it. Give me the youngsters who are too young and dumb to know they should be tired. Give me stamina and adrenaline.

Give me large homer fellas with their comically disfigured home runs and general hatred of baseballs.

This field has all that, and the format will make sure they’ll get to show off a lot more than they used to. I’m in. There might not be Cheap Authentic Jerseys a Hall of Famer in the bunch when it’s all said and done, but they’re some of the brightest home run monsters in today’s game.

Ryan Zimmerman is reborn, and his OPS is pushing 1000. Anthony Rendon might be the best hitter on the team. Even Jayson Werth and Michael Taylor Cheap Barcelona Jerseys are hitting a little bit.

Former MLB player, manager Don Baylor dead at 68

Former MLB player and manager Don Baylor — a strong clubhouse leader in the game, a pioneer outside it and gentleman in both — died early Monday morning after a long battle with multiple myeloma, his son confirmed to the Austin American-Statesman. He was 68.

Baylor, a native of Austin, was one of the first African Americans to attend Stephen F. Austin High School and the first to play baseball and football at the school. He could have become the first black player in University of Texas football history, the American-Statesman noted, had he not turned down legendary coach Darrell Royal’s scholarship offer to pursue a career in baseball.

Avila is enjoying a breakout season with the Tigers, slashing .274/.394/.475 despite a recent July slump. He’ll slide into a backup slot behind Cubs catcher Willson Contreras, a role once occupied by Miguel Montero before he was cut in June for criticizing Jake Arrieta.

Wilson will play a larger role for the Cubs, who may turn the left-hander into their closer if they fail to re-sign Wade Davis next season. Unlike Avila, Wilson is under control (arbitration eligible) for 2018 before turning into a free agent in 2019.

The Dodgers, Astros and Nationals were also in the mix for Wilson, who Hockey Jerseys Cheap owns a 2.68 ERA and 55:16 K:BB ratio with 13 saves and eight holds this season.

Candelario, the Cubs’ No. 1 prospect, according to MLB.com , is batting .266/.361/.507 with 12 homers and 52 RBIs in 81 games with Triple-A Iowa. Paredes, an 18-year-old shortstop and the club’s No. 10 ranked prospect, is batting .264/.343/.401 with Single-A South Bend.

The Tigers recalled reliever Joe Jimenez and catcher John Hicks from Triple-A to fill Jerseys China their two open roster spots, while the Cubs designated Dylan Floro for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot.

Details have emerged on the failed deals and the consensus is pretty simple among insiders: the Astros got too attached to their prospects.

“The explanation for the Astros coming up empty is more about their longstanding stance on their top prospects, others insist,” Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported. “They just weren’t willing to surrender their top prospects in some cases, rival execs said. ‘The Astros had the (young) players to make a deal,’ said one other rival GM. ‘They have a good farm system.'”

Ken Rosenthal suggested the same thing: “The Astros’ failures at the deadline were not for lack of effort. But they made six to seven prospects off-limits in discussions for Britton and Padres left-hander Brad Hand, sources said.”

So when the Astros thought they had a deal for Britton only to get it nixed after medicals were exchanged it begs the questions: If the Astros were trying to deal players with medical questions were they simply trying to pawn off players in an effort to outsmart their trade partners? Does that really qualify as trying to get a deal done?

Disney is banking on the ESPN stream attracting cord-cutters who have turned away from cable. Live sports that aren’t being shown on ESPN’s cable properties will be the most attractive lure (NHL, Major League Soccer and college games will also be available, part NFL Jerseys Authentic of the approximately 10,000 events total that will be offered, Disney says).

“We hope this provides closure on an unfortunate chapter of the story that has perpetuated throughout our quest to win a long-awaited World Series,” Ricketts said, in part, in a Liverpool Cheap Jerseys statement. “While no gesture can fully lift the public burden he has endured for more than a decade, we felt it was important Steve knows he has been and continues to be fully embraced by this organization.”

Baseball Hall of Fame induction: Jeff Bagwell thanks Craig Biggio, Astros fans

Jeff Bagwell thanked plenty of people Sunday during his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, from his family to former coaches.

Oakland was reportedly playing hardball early in the process, demanding both Clint Frazier and Gleyber Torres from the Yankees. But the A’s stance softened, which allowed a deal to get done before the deadline.

The Mets were also ready to trade sluggers Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson but the trade market was more focused on pitchers, leading Alderson to hold pat.

Analysis: The Dodgers added another bullpen arm at the deadline in a trade with Cincinnati for Cingrani.

Cingrani has struggled this season, posting a 5.40 ERA and recording no saves. He had 17 saves to go with a 4.14 ERA last season in Cincinnati.

The Reds gain a right-handed power-hitting corner MLB Cheap Jerseys outfield/first base option in Van Slyke, as well as a catching prospect in Clementina.

“What amazed me is that they would forfeit the game without NBA Jerseys Cheap having any announcement made,” team executive vice president Fred Claire said. “I don’t know how you can do that without giving a warning over the PA.”

Daulton was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013 and had surgery to remove a pair of tumors related to glioblastoma. He was declared cancer-free in 2015, but the cancer returned earlier this summer.

Yankees Gary Sanchez needs to improve his defense, says Joe Girardi

When Gary Sanchez dropped a third strike in the second inning of the Yankees 7-2 loss to the Indians Friday his defensive woes in 2017 came to a head. A runner scored from third on the passed ball that put Cleveland up 2-0 and set off head coach Joe Girardi.

“He needs to improve,” Girardi said after the game (via NY Daily News) . “Bottom line.”

In all honesty it’s the right way to play it for Oakland. The A’s have a 44-58 record, have next to zero chance to make the playoffs and have Gray under control for another couple of years. They can keep him and continue to build on him and maybe make a playoff run next year.

Add that to the fact that the Astros, Dodgers and Brewers are all in the running for Gray, and all of those teams have a good stable of prospects. It’s smart to ask for a high price and that’s exactly what the A’s are doing.

At this point the A’s have until Monday to get the deal done and odds are they will, netting a huge prospect in the process. It’s just a matter of which GM will bite the bullet and pay that high price for the starter that could be the difference between making the playoffs or even getting to the World Series.

It’s going to be an eventful few days.

From the bottom of the knee to the armpit, the strike zone is set for each batter. No technology is used, at least for the umpire’s benefit during the course of the game. It’s just one man using his own eyes to determine which pitches are strikes and which are balls.

Just how good umpires are at that aspect of their job is debatable. While Tampa Bay Lightning Cheap Jerseys the prevailing thought around baseball is that they are accurate on somewhere US Cheap Jerseys around 95 percent of calls, that number is unscientific. Without anyone from the league to confirm or deny, we’re left to speculate. Could it be lower than that? Could automating balls and strikes be a more accurate way of doing things?

Rams’ Todd Gurley eyes yardage goal higher than Marshall Faulk

No player in NFL history has ever tallied 1,500 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season.

Ramsey was unafraid of going toe-to-toe with one of the NFL’s most notorious and feared trash talkers.

In the remainder of his rookie year, Ramsey built a rivalry with the AFC South’s best receiver, DeAndre Hopkins. Since the end of the season, Ramsey and Hopkins have traded barbs with the cornerback taking shots on Instagram.

When the Jaguars signed cornerback A.J. Bouye, Hopkins lauded the move, telling reporters that Bouye “better be the dude guarding me on third down instead of Jalen because he couldn’t get the job done.”

In two matchups with the Jaguars in 2016, Hopkins tallied 13 receptions on 30 targets for 135 yards and no touchdowns. When the pressure was on, it was Ramsey who got the job done.

In the second meeting of the Texans and Jaguars, Hopkins finished with eight receptions for 87 yards. Ramsey finished with an interception, a forced fumble, and a series of highlights against Hopkins that didn’t show up in the stat book.

Jerry Jones ‘strapped on fear of failure’ before buying Cowboys

It took several failed business opportunities for Jerry Jones to have enough guts to “keep on keeping on.”

Though the Cowboys were a losing team in dire financial straits, Jones decided to “put up or shut up” and buy the team. He has sinced turned them into one of the most profitable sports teams in the world, and Jones was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

“I strapped on that fear of failure. For someone like me, a fear of ‘business’ heights was like stringing a tight rope from the Empire State Building to the next tallest building in New York and then starting your ass off on that tight rope,” Jones said during Saturday’s speech at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. “You have to make it work.”

It was also easy to see, however, that Siemian had limitations, physically and athletically. Those are things Lynch, with a big frame, big arm and terrific mobility, does have. Siemian has leaned on his experience and efficiency to maintain his lead with first-team reps through OTAs and minicamp. But Lynch’s upside has manifested in more than a few flashes.

McCoy and Joseph have seen steady progress from Lynch, and at some point, he can match Siemian’s current floor on the way to finding his ceiling. Lynch was trying to be too much like Siemian last year, and he couldn’t compare or compete. This year, he’s in position to let it loose with his Football Cheap Jerseys throwing and running, with the mental aspect being less of an obstacle.

That’s the difference between the Kubiak-Dennison precision passing system and McCoy. The new coordinator is better at adjusting his offense to the talents of his QB and thinking outside the box. He’s Hockey Jerseys Cheap much more comfortable with freewheeling, which fits Lynch to a tee.

Stanley Cup playoffs three stars: Capitals rally past Penguins to stay alive

Just when it looked like the Capitals were headed for another disappointing exit from the Stanley Cup playoffs, they showed signs of life.

The Capitals scored three times in the third period for a 4-2 win over the Penguins to stave off elimination in their second-round playoff series.

Patterson, 59, is a Wisconsin native who graduated from the University of Texas in 1980 with a degree in business administration. His father, Ray, was the general manager of the NBA’s Houston Rockets and Patterson later worked for the Rockets as well. He also led the Rockets’ successful bid to host the 1989 NBA All-Star Game in The Astrodome.

He has held executive positions with the AHL’s Houston Aeros and the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers, as well as the NFL’s Houston Texans, who landed Super Bowl XXXVIII thanks, in part, to Patterson’s efforts. Patterson was the AD at Arizona State from March of 2012 to September of 2013, before he left to assume the same title at his alma mater. Though he was fired on Sept. 15, 2015, the Coyotes are clearly hoping Patterson’s NBA relationships and his experience at Arizona State will help the Coyotes find a new home for the upcoming season and beyond.

The team had a deal in place with Arizona State, which actually has an NCAA Division I hockey program. The Coyotes were going to play at Arizona State’s 16,000-seat arena before the school unexpectedly pulled out of the agreement in February. That has since led Bettman and NBA commissioner Adam Silver to convince Suns owner Robert Sarver to share Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix with the Coyotes.

“I’m looking forward to working with Mr. Barroway to create a successful Cheap Authentic Jerseys franchise on and off the ice,” Patterson said, “and Cheap Bike Jerseys For Men I’m very excited about the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
