As a rookie, Grossman was buried behind Chris Chandler and Kordell Stewart before he got a chance to start in Week 17.

New coach Lovie Smith anointed Grossman the starter going into the QB’s second season.

On the surface, those first 10 starts don’t look too bad. Then you realize it took him through the early 2006 season to tally that many because of major injuries to his knee and then ankle. Grossman didn’t quite cut it as the Bears’ No. 1.

This happened by a happy accident. The Steelers were about to stick with Tommy Maddox as their starting QB, but the veteran suffered a major elbow injury in Week 2. Roethlisberger hasn’t looked back since starting in Week 3 as a rookie.

The old way of NFL, you line up and you run this play no matter how many guys are in the box, no matter what coverage it is. So we’re kind of evolving the game and the defensive guys can never be right no matter what they do. Of course, and NFL offense that incorporates spread concepts needs its quarterback to be able to handle far more responsibilities than put on college signal-callers.

Nagy’s offense is quarterback-driven, and while he’s tailoring it to Mitch Trubisky – who ran a version of the spread offense at North Carolina – there’s still plenty of responsibility put on the former No. 2 overall pick. And the process the Bears are in to teach it to Trubisky is, and will be, lengthy. What I always tell guys and what Matt has told the team is, let’s take baby steps,Daniel said. We’re not going to try to run before we walk.

Emmanuel Acho, who was teammates with Kendricks in 2013 and 2014, said the Super Bowl champion wasn’t all that upset with the move:

Per conversation w/ #Eagles Kendricks: •Dozens of teams have already reached out. •Played in 3/4 & 4/3 for 3 years each so he doesn’t have a preference. •Is looking for an aggressive and attacking defense.
